Most banks have a representative who can speak English. All the banks have ATMs. Passports are required when changing money. Banks opening hours are Monday – Friday 08:30 – 14:00. In the Summer some banks are open Saturdays 08:30 – 13:00.

In Ayamonte open Monday – Friday 09:00 – 14:00 (varies elsewhere) 

Stamps are also sold at Tobacconists (look for brown and yellow “Tabac” sign).

The nearest is either Saras on the A49 both sides of the carriageway or there is a BP station on the road into Ayamonte, by the La Plaza shopping centre. As petrol is cheaper in Spain than in Portugal, there are often long queues. Diesel is gasoleo (Black Pump) and Unleaded is sin plumo.

Out of hours petrol is usually only available by pre-payment either at the pump with a card or through a night hatch at the cashier’s desk.

These are open 24 hours and are equivalent to the walk in centres in the UK. If you require treatment please take your passport and European Health Insurance card – doing so could save you money! The Emergency Telephone Number is 112

There are a number of supermarkets to be found in Ayamonte. These include Mercadona (in La Plaza shopping centre) and Dia, both of which can be found on the road into Ayamonte, Supersol (near the ferry to Portugal) and Supersol close to the Ayamonte Centre are on the way to Isla Canela. Supermarkets are generally open 09:30 – 20:00 and closed on Sundays.

If you need some shopping on Sundays there is the onsite mini market or the Saras petrol station at junction 129 on the A49 (direction Huelva) or pop over the bridge to Portugal where you will find Eco Marche, Pingo Doce and Lidl in Villa Real de San Antonio (1st exit after the bridge) all open until 18:00 (19:00 Spanish). Should you wish to do a ‘big shop’ there is a Carrefour at Cartaya, about 30kms away. Take the A49 towards Huelva and leave at the Cartaya exit (105). Follow the road, over one roundabout, to a large roundabout, where Carrefour will be on your left. Opening hours 10:00 – 22:00, closed on Sundays.
